More must now be done to support service leavers? transition from military to civilian life - Doyle

6 December 2012

Gemma_DoyleGemma Doyle MP, Labour?s Shadow Minister for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans, in response to the publication of the Government?s Armed Forces Covenant Annual Report 2012, said:

?We welcome the publication of this report and any increased support for our Forces.

?Coming the day after the further cuts to defence, our Forces will feel uncertain when reassurances were required.

?Decisions over basing and wider government support have been delayed, causing families huge concern for the future.

?Housing is one of the main concerns for forces? families worries and the comments show that this continues to be an issue.

?Labour?s calls for an extension of the service premium have been answered, but more must now be done to support service leavers? transition from military to civilian life, including through tracking and employment support.?
