Area college roundup: Red Devils take down Concordia

Mark Lessen scored 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Eureka men?s basketball team to a 77-60 victory over Concordia on Wednesday night at Reagan Gym.

The senior center from Delavan was 9-for-11 from the field in the nonconference contest as Eureka snapped a six-game skid.

Dustin Fritsch had 10 points, 10 boards and six assists and Jordan Kindred scored 18 for the Red Devils (4-6), who led 42-20 at halftime of the home game. Kindred was 4-for-7 on 3-pointers.

Khirey Floyd scored 16 points for the Cougars (1-9).

Illinois State women

NORMAL ? Princeton used to big second-half runs to break a halftime tie and win 67-50 at ISU.

The Tigers (7-4) scored the first seven points after intermission to break a 32-32 tie and used a 10-point run to close out the Redbirds (6-4) in the nonconference ballgame at Redbird Arena.

Janae Smith had 17 points and 16 rebounds for Illinois State. And Candace Sykes went 12 and seven for the Redbirds, who were just 15-for-64 (23.4 percent) from the field, 5-for-28 (17.9 percent) in the second half.

Richwoods graduate Mariah Smith had four points, two rebounds and three blocks for Princeton.

ELSEWHERE: The nationally ranked Monmouth women improved to 10-0 with a 56-51 Midwest Conference victory at Ripon. Colleen Forrest led the Scots with 13 points. Monmouth moved up one spot to 23rd this week in both the USA Today and D3Hoops.com polls.
