As part of its ongoing effort to educate seniors about how to live healthier, the Center for Healthy Aging at?Kimball Medical Center?will offer a fall prevention workshop and balance screenings on?Tuesday, September 11 from 10 a.m. to noon at Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center, located at 331 Georgia Tavern Road in Howell.
Offered to adults over age 60, the preventative health program is designed to help seniors reduce falls and fall-related injuries. Health coaches, who act as healthcare liaisons, address issues that may contribute to falls, such as obstacles within the home, underlying medical issues and medication use. Health coaches also help participants identify their individual risk and offer balance screenings, as well as instruct participants on what to do if a fall occurs.
?Falls are preventable, but if they do occur, they have the potential to rob a senior of his or her independence.?We utilize the screenings to assist seniors in figuring out what healthcare measures may need to be taken in order to prevent a fall, and we also link seniors with providers who can ensure these issues are addressed,? said Peggy Lomerson, a health coach at Kimball?s Center for Healthy Aging, who will be leading the September 11 workshop with fellow health coach Kelly DeLeon.
?Kimball recognizes that each group we serve is unique. Seniors participating in the workshops and screenings offered by The Center for Healthy Aging benefit from access to health coaches in the community, who guide seniors step-by-step and ensure they receive proper access to healthcare programs and services,? said Michael Mimoso, executive director, Kimball Medical Center.
The Center for Healthy Aging at Kimball Medical Center promotes healthy lifestyles among seniors through activities including educational lectures, health screenings, support groups and exercise classes, as well as diabetes management and diabetes support groups facilitated by a Registered Nurse and a Registered Dietitian.
The program is free, but registration is required. Please register by September 5 by visiting the program registration page at?www.monmouthcountyparks.org; by calling 732-842-2000, ext. 1; or in-person at Park System Headquarters in Thompson Park on Newman Springs Road in Lincroft.
