CLEARWATER - It s a musical multi-sport mash-up with rocking, swimming, biking and running. Taking place on Sunday, Nov. 11, the first ever Land Rover TriRock Clearwater Triathlon will feature a beach start and open water swim at Pier 60, followed by a scenic bike and run course along the shores of the gulf.

Starting at 6:50 a.m., Land Rover TriRock Clearwater will feature sprint and intermediate distance events as well as a three-person triathlon relay. The course boasts a single loop, warm water swim in the Gulf of Mexico, followed by a flat single loop bike course that takes athletes through the sites and scenes of downtown Clearwater. The triathlon finishes with a flat single loop run course along Clearwater Harbor and the beach. Seasoned veterans and beginners alike can enjoy entertainment along the course and a rockin post-race concert on the sand with family and friends.

"We are pleased to welcome the TriRock Series to Clearwater," said Clearwater Mayor George N. Cretekos. "It will be yet another way Clearwater and its visitors can participate in healthy and active events. Our city offers an ideal destination to swim, bike and run alongside our world-renowned powdery, white sandy beaches, and all of Clearwater looks forward to helping everyone celebrate the end of the triathlon season this year and for years to come."

"Clearwater not only offers an impressive setting for the race course, but participants can double their trip as a vacation as they enjoy the destination s notable beach, which was voted as having the best sand on the east coast by Condi Nast Traveler," said Molly Quinn, vice president of Triathlon at Competitor Group, organizer of the Land Rover TriRock Triathlon Series. "In addition to the scenic surroundings, the entertainment featured along the race course will add to the fun and entertaining atmosphere that TriRock events are known for."

The unique triathlon format features a rocking competition, complete with live bands along the swim, bike and run courses, followed by a post-race party and concert. Participants will receive a finisher's medal, technical T-shirt, red carpet finish, post-race breakfast and access to the concert and beer garden. Participants just testing the waters of the triathlon experience can also sign up as a three-person relay team, taking on either the swim, bike or run component.

"We are thrilled to join forces with the Land Rover TriRock Series and bring a world-class triathlon event to Clearwater," said Kevin Smith, director of the St. Pete/Clearwater Sports Commission. "Participation in triathlon is exploding all over the world and with TriRock Clearwater taking place as the last big event at the end of triathlon season, our region will be an immediate benefactor of that explosion bringing triathletes from across the U.S. to Clearwater each November."
