2013 Honda Civic

In case you've forgotten, the 2012 Honda Civic landed with a big thud. And rightfully so. The car was a cheap version of its former self and lacked the personality and quality to compete within its segment.

Fortunately for Honda, the brand has some cache. As Honda executives emphatically reminded the audience at Honda's press conference during the L.A. Auto Show, despite the poor reviews, the Civic remains the top-selling car in its category. Even so, Honda acted fast to rectify Civic Gate 2012. For 2013 the carmaker rolled out a heavily refreshed Civic to appease the critics.

The new Civic's sheetmetal was almost entirely overhauled with a new grille and mouth, a new sculpted hood, new wheels, a new taillight design, new trunk lid, and new bumper. On the interior, Honda says it updated the Civic's instrument panel, added soft touch materials to the dash and doors, improved functionality on its information screen, enhanced ride quality and cab quietness, and added Bluetooth, Pandora, SMS texting, and a backup camera standard. In terms of safety, the 2013 Civic will have side curtain airbag sensors and available forward collision warning and lane departure warning. Honda did all of this and more while only having to raise the price of the new 2013 Civic by $160 to $18,965.

It's an impressive upgrade that was accomplished in lighting speed for the auto industry, but you have to wonder how those 2012 Civic owners will feel when they see how much Honda was holding back.
