Lily and Eliza, experienced soccer players, were interviewed about their opinions.

When it comes down to Parks and Rec. soccer and travel soccer, which one is the best for which reasons? Many people are asking this question and similar ones, especially in middle school. Parks and Rec. soccer, and other sports, are great ways to do what you love with your friends. Except, more and more young students are joining travel soccer teams, so which one should you choose?

Many students play Parks and Rec. soccer for various reasons. It provides a free way to pass time during the fall. All players will get to play on a team, and have fun doing what they love. Everyone who tries out will make it on a team, no matter their playing ability. Parents love Parks and Rec. sports, because they are an inexpensive way for their child to burn off some energy and have fun. This is an amazing organization, though some teenagers still prefer travel soccer for various reasons.

Travel soccer is a more in depth way to have fun and learn the skills required to play soccer. In most clubs, it costs approximately $400-$1,000, depending on the club?s requirements. Travel soccer focuses not only on the basics of soccer, but it goes into the skills, technique, and endurance that all professional and college soccer players achieved. This may not be the ideal opportunity for families who cannot or do not want to spend the time or money required to be committed to a future in soccer. Some clubs are based on a religious foundation, but it is not forced upon anyone to believe in a certain religion. It may be a lot of work to play travel soccer, but many players agree that the result is worth the labor.

Eliza East plays for the Roanoke Stars, which is a travel soccer club in the Roanoke area. She feels that her soccer skills have improved, because the coaches are more experienced and players get more practice than in Parks and Rec. She also says that the money required to play is worth it, because that is what you have to do to become a better soccer player.

Lily Barnes is a former Salem Sabres player. Salem Sabres is another travel soccer club in the Salem and Roanoke area. She says that travel soccer is a lot of fun, but it is also a lot of traveling around. She also mentioned that if you are planning on playing school sports like volleyball or cheerleading or football, then travel soccer might not be the best for you. The reason for this, is travel soccer may interfere with other sports, like baseball, basketball, or even school soccer. Contrasting, it is a good way to focus on your favorite sport.

Whether travel or Parks and Recreation, both are amazing ways to have fun and do what you love. Students enjoy both, and it just depends on what?s best for you and your family. Whichever you choose, make sure that you are doing the most important thing: having fun!
