What are the ages of the kids? For us- our family time(away from FD) is when the kids get home from school . FD's pre-k goes till 6:30p which means we get a few hrs without the extra drama if you will. Fall break just ended, and I still took FD to pre-k. I took different ones to a movie, a matinee etc.... and btw, she has done these things with us several times so it's not like we only do family fun stuff when she's not around. We don't do respite and she doesn't go on long visits so really that's their only break from her. Personally I don't feel I need a break from her as she's not all that difficult, but I take advantage of the time b/c I want my kids to be able to breathe, lol. Some days they just seem highly annoyed with her, and I know they wish that sometimes she wasn't here but they would never say that, b/c they are too thoughtful. I don't want my kids getting 'burned out' the way foster parents get burned out, so finding that 'just us' time every once in awhile is important!
